Denton Town 1 Manchester city 6 (u12's at Wythenshawe)

Well girls what can i say, disappointed, i thought we were in with a chance but we just didnt play as well as we can do. too many girls not on top form. city scored more or less straight away and your heads went down abit. then they got a second and you seemed to respond. lucy scored a great goal (the first weve managed against city this season), then she had a second disallowed,(it was definatley out of the goalies hands) but thats the way it goes, we seemed to do a bit better after the break and i could hear darren getting worried and shouting. but it wasnt our day and city came back into the game. beth played really well and pulled off two brilliant saves (any goalie in the premiership would have been proud off) she was kept really busy especially from corners and really deserved her double man of the match. megan ran her little socks off as well and was a close second for man of the match. i think our fitness levels affect us as we start to tire in the last 20 mins where as city started to get going. they also had a lot of subs.
were going to have to do alot better if we are to have any chance of winng the cup, we need everybody on top form. everyone of you are as good if not better (when you want to be) than the city players, its just you seem to hear the name city and think "oh no were going to get beat" if you think like that we will get beat. so come on girls have some faith in yourselves and lets win the cup.
weve got two games left in the league hopefully they wont get cancelled (its a long day with no footy on a saturday) so lets get them won ( its hollingworth and stockport) and secure second place.
im proud of each and every one of you for the way you have played this season lets finish on a high and get a winners trophy and second place.
Love.

Denton Town 6 Urmston Meadowside 1 (U13's)

Well girls, what do you think of our new pitch then? For this time of year it is superb, with only the goal areas suffering. I think a good pitch benefits us, as it allows you to play decent football - which you did today.

Today's result was fantastic, and just what was needed after the shock defeat to Flixton. Urmston are a great side, make no mistake about it. Before today, the most they had conceded was five (vs. Deans), and other than that, mostly 1 and 2's, with 3 clean sheets. Great goal by Ruby in the first minute - was it intended - of course it was, brilliant, and it was nice to see that 5 of the six were scored by girls who aren't our top two goalscorers, namely Sam, Lauren and Georgia (2). Yoyo now with 31 goals, has stretched her lead over Nat to 4. Player of the match voted by Urmston was Nat -well done, and we gave it to their number 7 - Darcie Westwood. David the ref was excellent, and I thought he deserved 9/10.

1 mins 1-0 Ruby

6 mins 2-0 Georgia

17 mins 3-0 Yoyo

28 mins 3-1 Chloe for Urmston

Half Time

36 mins 4-1 Georgia

50 mins 5-1 Sam

66 mins 6-1 Lauren.

Next up, Deans away in the Semi-Final.

One Liners

Hope you find these amusing. Maybe the older generation will appreciate them more.

I was reading this book today, The History of Glue, and I couldn't put it down.
I phoned the local ramblers club today, and this bloke just went on and on.
So Batman came up to me & he hit me over the head with a vase & he went T'PAU! I said "Don't you mean KAPOW?? He said "No, I've got china in my hand."
You invented Tipp Ex, correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm so lazy I've got a smoke alarm with a snooze button.
I bought some Armageddon cheese today, and it said on the packet 'Best Before End'
So I went to buy a watch, and the man in the shop said "Analogue." I said "No, just a watch."
I went into a shop and I said, "Can someone sell me a kettle." The bloke said "Kenwood" I said, "Where is he?"
So I went in to a pet shop. I said, "Can I buy a goldfish?" The guy said, "Do you want an aquarium?" I said, "I don't care what star sign it is."
I was in this restaurant and I asked for something herby. They gave me a Volkswagen with no driver.
So I met the bloke who invented crosswords today. I can't remember his name, it's P something T something R.
My mate asked me "What do you think of voluntary work?? I said "I wouldn't do it if you paid me."
So I was in the jungle and there was this monkey with a tin opener. I said, "You don't need a tin opener to peel a banana." He said, "No, this is for the custard."
This policeman came up to me with a pencil and a piece of very thin paper. He said, "I want you to trace someone for me."
So this lorry full of tortoises collided with a van full of terrapins. It was a turtle disaster.
So I told my girlfriend I had a job in a bowling alley. She said "Tenpin?" I said, "No, it's a permanent job."
I phoned the local builders today; I said to them "Can I have a skip outside my house?" He said, "I'm not stopping you!"
So this cowboy walks in to a German car showroom and he says "Audi!"
So I fancied a game of darts with my mate. He said, "Nearest the bull goes first" He went "Baah" and I went "Moo" He said "You're closest"
So I met this bloke with a didgeridoo and he was playing Dancing Queen on it. I thought that's Aboriginal.
I was driving up the motorway and my boss phoned me and he told me I'd been promoted. I was so shocked I swerved the car. He phoned me again to say I'd been promoted even higher and I swerved again. He then made me managing director & I went right off into a tree. The police came and asked me what had happened. I said "I careered off the road"
I visited the offices of the RSPCA today. It's tiny you couldn't swing a cat in there.
I was stealing things in the supermarket today while balanced on the shoulders of vampires. I was charged with shoplifting on three counts.
I bought a train ticket and the driver said "Eurostar" I said "Well I've been on telly but I'm no Dean Martin".
I phoned the local gym and I asked if they could teach me how to do the splits. He said, "How flexible are you?" I said, "I can't make Tuesdays or Thursdays."
So I went to the local video shop and I said, "Can I take out The Elephant Man?" He said, "He's not your type." I said "How about Batman Forever?" He said, "No, you'll have to bring it back tomorrow"

Fixtures - March 2007

UNDER 11's - very quite month I'm afraid. I have been trying to get contact details of teams in other leagues, so that you can have some friendlies - no luck so far. Still, I'll keep trying, and will let you know as soon as something is arranged. Your last league game is : -

17th March vs. Stockport County. Please arrive 10am at Haughton Green.

STOP PRESS!!! The friendly for this Sat 24th Feb has been cancelled. However, I'm hoping we can play Droylsden and Heyside on Sat 3rd March. I'll keep you posted.

UNDER 13's - the opposite for you, as this really is crunch time. Urmston this Sat, then Deans (3 times), plus Wythenshawe Ams - it doesn't get much tougher, but you know you're good enough to beat any team.

3rd March - Deans - Away - Cup Semi-Final
10th March - Deans - Home - League
17th March - Wythenshawe Ams - Home - League
24th March - Deans - Away - League
31st March - Hillgate Blues - Home - League.

Kayleigh's Gone Green

My brother is a coach at The Raven Judo club, in Dukinfield, which Kayleigh Crompton attends. He has just informed me that Kayleigh has just won her GREEN BELT.

Brill news, Kayleigh, its clear that with your footie skills, you are a multi-talented girl.

Anyone else with sucess away from footie, let me know, and I'll put it on the blogger for you.

Flixton Girls 7 Denton Town 6 - under 13's

Well, what can I say? Silly little mistakes, and good finishing by them cost us. Beat them 10-0 last time, but they have improved so much, and I applaud them for that, and hopefully they can beat Deans when they play them at home.
Don't think the ref had a good game, missed an obvious back pass, let some blantant fouls pass him by, told Nat off for swearing when everyone on the touchline said it wasn't her, and played a little short in the 1st half. Gave him 6/10, and his comment as they scored their very late winner, was totally unprofessional of him. I don't think he was biased, as some bad decisions did come our way, he just had a poor game.
But don't use the ref as an excuse, Flixton really worked hard for their win today (championship challengers next year on that form), and we made some very basic mistakes, but I'm sure Alan and Tim will sort it.
Some positives from the game though.
Only 1 defeat in 9 months;
Chloe Brewer scored an hat-trick which makes it two weeks running if you include her performance for the 12's last week;
Three-nil down, most teams are dead and buried, but you pulled it back to 3-3.
Six-three down - pulled it level again, only to lose it on virtually the last kick of the match.
The season is far from over - several teams are still in the running to win the title, and we're one of the favourites.

Coming back from 3 goals behind, twice in one game, shows great strength of character, and you must use that strength to defeat the likes of Deans, Urmston and Wythenshawe Ams.

Here are the match details: -

11 mins 0-1
15 mins 0-2
17 mins 0-3
30 mins 1-3 Ruby
half time
36 mins 2-3 Chloe B
38 mins 3-3 Chloe B
41 mins 3-4
43 mins 3-5
47 mins 3-6
55 mins 4-6 Chloe B
69 mins 5-6 Sam
70+1 mins 6-6 Sally
70+5 mins 6-7

Girl of the match was Sally, and for them the no.7.

See you Tuesday for training 7-8:30. Enjoy the weekend.

Kylie on the Up!

Congratulations to Kylie McDermott for being awarded Most Improved Player at the recent Soccer School , held at Copley. Kylie is so enthusiastic about her footie, and its great to see her receive this award. Taking nothing away from her, but me and Amy have noticed big improvements in all the girls, and we're confident that we will see some of that in the summer tournaments.

11 Feb 2007

Hollingworth 1 Denton Town 9 - under 12's

Just thought id say a few words about yesterdays game. WELL DONE GIRLS. we won 9-1 against hollingworth, with two of our players on holiday and one sick it meant we had no subs so the girls had to play the whole match.A BIG THANK YOU TO CHLOE BREWER (FROM THE U 13s) for helping us out and scoring a hat trick. katie must have read my message from the other day because she scored 2 as well and sophie burke got her first 2 goals for us (that means the whole team have now scored) with becks and danny scoring aswell a good result. beth in goal didnt have much to do and at the end of the match she couldnt move her fingers (maybe that was why she didnt get to the ball when they scored) or her feet she was that cold. anyway that now puts us second in the league and going off matches left to play we should stay there as we have the easier matches. see you all thursday at training and WELL DONE AGAIN KEEP IT UP.
DAWN.

Female Comments/Posts

Thanks to Beth, Kylie and Megan's mums for sending comments and posts recently.

This is a female sport, and we need more input from mums, aunts, sisters etc., offering support to the girls. Even if you don't understand football, a few words of encouragement, wouldn't go a miss.

So come on ladies, get typing.

Denton Town vs. Manchester City Under 11's

Thought the team struggled today, as too many were having an off day. Not coming back to defend, forgetting positions, poor marking, and not clearing the area cost us a lot of goals today. But every team has bad days, so get over it. The real improvement will come when we can do training on the grass, as we can work on positions, set pieces and so on.

I always like to focus on the positives of the game, and there were some. Firstly, player of the match again, Lachen, absolutely superb in nets. Kelsie, 1st game for us, and worked very hard for the team. Hannah, felt the goals she let in were her fault - they weren't. You are a team, and everyone plays their part, plus City are well organised, and have been playing together for a least one full season. Also, when Hannah came back on in the 2nd half as an outfield player, she ran her socks off. Some excellent moments in the game as well, where several players were involved in good passing moves, and we created at least one good chance.

So, keep your chin up girls, we'll get there.

Praise for 12's

Hi nigel just thought I'd email you seeing as nobody off the u12s has done. I'd just like to tell the u12 girls well done for the season so far and I hope they keep up the good work. Only three games left in the league and they should be fairly easy but this is football and you never know. Weather permitting the last league game should be on my birthday against Hollingworth so, lets hope we get lots of goals (I was going to ask for one for each year but an hours not long enough for all them) and 2nd place in the league for my pressie would be great. another thing is I'd like to tell the girls that have been with us from the start that they have become great little players everyone of them Beth Sophie Lucy Megan Becks little Sophie B and I'd like to say what a welcome addition Keely and Dannielle are; they have slotted into our team as though they have always been there and lastly Katie welcome and I want some more goals please, all the girls are real good friends and I am proud of every single one of you. ONCE AGAIN KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. Dawn.

7 Feb 2007

UNDER 10s

Well done to all the girls on Saturday 3FEB who beat Heyside 2-0 in the Challenge Cup. We're thru' to the Semi Finals now and I think we are playing Stockport. Hopefully we can beat them and reach the Final which will be against Man City or Curzon Ashton. Who knows we might have a Trophy but, as i keep saying the most important thing is, to enjoy your football, win or lose

Profile of a Junior Manager

Next time you're giving us coaches/managers a hard time, please give a thought to the following article, which Droyslden Juniors allowed me to copy from their site. I've added my bit in red.

Profile of a Junior Manager.

  • You spend the last hour of work planning the evening's training session - well, lunchtime every now and then.
  • You lose sleep worrying whether the lineup for the next game is fair to every player and what the parents might think - yes, done that many a time, especially before a big game.
  • When your wife goes to the supermarket, she can't put the shopping in the boot because it is full of footballs, training cones etc - Oh yes! and have we had some arguments over that one.
  • You plan your summer holidays around soccer tournaments - if my wife (Tracey) lets me.
  • You wear track suit bottoms all the time - ever seen me in anything else?
  • Your phone never stops ringing and its always regarding football - does my 'ed in sometimes, and Tracey thinks I'm having an affair over the phone.
  • When you meet someone new, you always have in the back of your mind whether or not they can offer any sponsorship to your team/club - I'm a treasurer, what do you expect?
  • You're always looking at weekend weather forecasts - with the state of some of the pitches around here, do you blame me?
  • In the middle of January, you can't wait for the season to end - only if we're bottom or flying high with some tough game ahead, then I can't wait for it to start again.
  • You get withdrawal symptoms when the season's over - Sat mornings the worse, don't know what to do with myself.
  • When you meet your daughter's new friend, the 1st thing you ask is their date of birth and whether or not they can play footie - sad but true, when Natasha was still playing anyway.
  • You spend the summer re-discovering your garden - not by choice I assure you, I hate gardening.
  • When you buy a new car you think in terms of how many players can fit in and how much equipment the boot will hold - new car hmm!, that would be nice. When the time comes, yes, I probably would consider the above, but don't tell Tracey.
  • When you go shopping, you always come back with something that will be 'useful' for the team - like fruit LOL (private joke between me and the 13's).
  • Over half of your annual car mileage is football related - and the rest!
  • When you get home after the match, your wife, kids and dog avoid you until they find out the score, then avoid you rest of the day - sort of true, sometimes, but cats in my case - you can definitely swing a cat in our living room - only joking.
  • And finally...... the phrase, 'talking to a brick wall' is often used - I'm ashamed to admit it, but yes, I switch off, thinking about footie. Sad I know.

Hope you enjoyed that little insight into the life of football managers. Sure Allen, Tim, Alan, Amy, Chris and Andy can relate to some of that.

Thanks to Dave (from Droylsden JFC).

Player of the Month - Jan 2007 - Under 13's

Awesome

Rochdale vs. Denton Town under 11's CUP & Laserquest

Another step in the right direction, with the scoreline coming down even further. Rochdale played some brilliant football today, their passing was superb, which makes it all the more pleasing to see how you coped with it. Don't get me wrong, there is a long way to go yet, but you are getting there.

I missed the end of the match, because I was getting a lift to the 13's game so, sorry for that, but from what Amy tells me, you had several chances to score - so well done!

Some things you still need to work hard on are:-

1. Clearing the ball. If its in our penalty area, its no good just tapping it and hoping for the best, get some power behind the ball, and clear it upfield, preferably down the wings, and not through the middle.

2. Players still walking back when we lose possession. You've got to put 100% in all the time if you want to improve.

3. Not communicating (talking) enough during the game.

There are other points, but I feel these are the main ones, and we will work on them. Some positives as well. You are staying in your positions slightly better than before, and you created more chances against Rochdale than you have ever done in the past. So keep it up.

Well done Tiarna for winning player of the match, and getting the Captain's armband off Lachen.

LASERQUEST - Who's the sharpest shooter in DT then, coming 1st, 4th and 1st again -Me of course.
Never mind girls, it was loads of fun, and at least you were better that the 13's - THEY WERE RUBBISH!

Denton Town 11 Sale United 0 (at Sale) U13's

For the 1st 15mins, it looked like you were still in dream land, and although we had chances during this period, Sale with better finishing, could have bagged 3 goals, which would of made it a completely different game.

Once you got going though, (and after another good half-time team talk by Alan and Tim), you played some really nice football, and proved too strong for Sale, but the scoreline was perhaps a little harsh on them. You're in the semi-finals now, but sorry, due to problems with the league's website, I haven't a clue who you will be playing. Match details are:-

15 mins 1-0 Ruby

16 mins 2-0 Nat

19 mins 3-0 Ruby

27 mins 4-0 Nat

Half-time

38 mins 5-0 Yoyo

42 mins 6-0 Nat

46 mins 7-0 Yoyo

51 mins 8-0 Lauren

52 mins 9-0 Yoyo

55 mins 10-0 Ruby

70 mins 11-0 Nat.

Our player of the match from the opposition was Nat, and Sally received it from Alan/Tim. Their player of the match was the little No.7, who together with No.6 (Shannon), really gave us something to deal with from time to time.

I gave Dave the ref 8/10, as he got most things right, though I suppose Sam, if she'd been there, would have given him at least 11. Kisses

Oh, and finally. Chloe Brewer, Nicole Worthington and Ruby Sullivan, if you are going to continue flicking mud at me, then be warned, I will get you, and I've got reinforcements .
