Wythenshawe Amateurs 2 Denton Town 3 (under 13's)

Tough match today, although you had the chances to finish them off in the first half, but going in at half-time 2-0 up, we knew they were going to come at us 2nd half. Similar to the Stockport game, we changed things round, and you lost your composure, conceding two goals in as many minutes which brought them level, and they looked good for more at that point. It just goes to show, that if you let things slip against good teams like WA, you are going to get punished, and WA took their goals really well. We picked up again for the last 20mins, but apart from the pen, didn't take our chances.

Overall you all put 100% in today, and the defence looked pretty solid, though their blonde no. 10 gave us allsorts of problems - class player. On the balance of play, and chances created, I think we edged WA and deserved the win - no doubt they will have a different view. Details are:-

4 mins 1-0 Yoyo - great finish
33 mins 2-0 Yoyo - another good goal
Half-time
42 mins 2-1 great goal by WA
44 mins 2-2 bit scrappy, should have cleared it
51 mins 3-2 Kayleigh (pen), well placed as usual.

Our player of the match (after some confusion) was Kayleigh - well done, strong as ever. For them, the blonde no. 10 - remember her next time we play them. Thought the ref missed a few clear decisions, both for and against us, so I gave him 7/10, which is probably a bit generous - mind you, he is still very young and like you, learning the game.

Cup next week, at home to Sale.

Please read my apology to WA below.

Wythenshawe Amateurs - Apology. (under 13's)

Before reporting on the match, I just want to say a few words about our opponents today. It has been brought to my attention that Wythenshawe (WA) found my comments about our first encounter in October offensive, and on reflection, I have to admit, that they have a point. WA made it very difficult in that game, whereas some of my comments suggest it would have been a walk in the park if they had bigger nets. It wouldn't have been. WA are a strong hard working side, who find themselves near the top of the table on merit, and I would like to apologise to all concerned at WAFC for any offense caused by my remarks.
This site is primarily for DT players etc to view, and the comments are always going to be biased towards our club. Having said that, we welcome members from other teams viewing this site, and you are always free to leave a comment if you wish to do so. Sorry

Player of the Month - Jan 2007 - Under 11's

Congratulations go to Lachen Hall for being voted the 1st ever under 11's player of the month. Throughout January Lachen has played with a great attitude, making some truly 1st class saves, and showing how adaptable she is by playing some terrific football outfield as well.

Brilliant Lachen, keep it up.

Curzon Ashton's match report under 10's

Below is the match report made by Curzon after their 1-0 defeat against our under 10's. Thought you may like read what they made of us that day.

A much improved Denton team made most of the running in this game, Curzon have been use to having things their own way and this was there biggest test of the season. Games like this are much better for the girls because the pride comes out and the will to win is tested so I would love it to be this close every week. We will see how the girls have taken their first defeat in their next game - manager Curzon Ashton.

Nice comments, and certainly the type of team we would like to play week in week out.

Denton Town u11's vs. Rochdale u11's

Again, another step in the right direction. You started off really well, and did some excellent defending. The areas that are costing us are: -
1. Some players didn't stick to their given position, which confused everyone, including me and Amy. Stick to the position me/Amy have given you.
2. Holding onto the ball when a simple pass to someone in space would have done. Look up, see who's around you and don't panic.
3. Several players going after the same ball, partly due to no. 1.
4. Players walking back when we lose possession, and have to defend. Everyone has to put it in, defenders, midfielders and forwards - its a TEAM game.
5. Not talking to each other. You do enough of it off the pitch, lets have some more on it.
6. Better than last week, but players are still waiting too far up the pitch to receive the ball from our goalkicks. Stand in front of the opposition, and be ready to react when they do.
7. Not clearing the ball out of danger. Its no good just tapping the ball, if you need to clear it, then get some power behind the ball.
8. Passing across your goal. Remember, IF IN DOUBT - KICK IT OUT. Better to give away a throw-in or corner than letting them have a goal scoring chance.
9. They were very physical, and pushed some of you off the ball a little too easy (some were fouls as well, not picked up by the ref). You need to be a little more physical back.
All that makes you sound awful, doesn't it? Well, you're NOT! You have IMPROVED so much over the last few weeks - remember, Rochdale won 21-0 last time. Some positives from the game were
1) Hannah; ran her heart out upfront, and pulled off some great saves as goalie.
2) Lachem; not only is she a fantastic keeper, but a cracking defender as well, and some of her runs and tackles were excellent. Awarded player of the match for the 2nd week running.
3) Most of the match, you tried, we need to make that ALL of the match - then things will really start to improve.
PARENTS/SPECTATORS/PLAYERS - Leave a comment please, and tell me what you think.
Training on Thurs, I will be late, so give your subs to Amy. Training is important, as we can work on these problems. Chris said he would come along again, and I thought he was excellent last week, so please do your best to attend. Still places left for Laserquest, please get your forms to me or Amy. Even if you have already booked, you can add friends and family if you wish.
No match next Saturday.
Enjoy your weekend.
Nigel.

Denton Town Under 12's in the Final !!!!

Under 12's - Fantastic news, as DT beat Heyside 3-1 to secure a place in the final against Manchester City. The game will be played in April/May at Glossop North End, and we need as much support as possible.

Now I'm a blue, and so is the u12's coach, Andy (& Dawn for that matter), but on that day, only one team will count - DENTON TOWN. Come on you stripes.

Andy/Dawn, leave a comment, and tell us about the match.

Well done!SmileyCentral.com

Stockport County 13's - 3 Denton Town 13's - 4

Wow, another cliffhanger vs. County, this time though we took all 3 pts - sweet! Didn't half make it hard for yourselves though. Great start to the match, and you were all over them, and Nat's early goal was just reward for all that effort.
Then what happened? You switched off, allowed County to play, and they scored 3 in 7 mins. You went to pieces basically. Proved what a great manager Alan is though, I thought his 1/2 time team talk was spot on, and just what you all needed. Start of the 2nd half you were back to your usual best, and County just couldn't cope with you. At 3-3 we had a couple of chances to finish them off, but Yo saved the best tell last with a goal 5 mins from time after good work by Georgia.
Well done to you all - sign of a good team coming back from behind to win. Scorers below: -
9 mins 1-0 Nat
26 mins 1-1 Stockport
28 mins 1-2 Stockport
33 mins 1-3 Stockport
1/2 time
46 mins 2-3 Yoyo
48 mins 3-3 Nat
65 mins 4-3 Yoyo
Our player of the match from them was Chloe Williams, though I personally thought Sally was outstanding. We gave player of the match to their goalie. This is getting silly with Stockport.

Denton Town U11's vs Manchester City U11's

Last time we played City, we lost 26-0, this time it was some what less, and we played 3/4 match without Tiana, who is so strong in midfield. Me and Amy were dead proud of you all today, because you gave it 100%, and didn't let your heads go down.
Some good points from the match, you can pass the ball about when you put your minds to it, and on a couple of occasions their goalie had to be alert, as you could easily of scored. You also started to listen (take on board) our instructions, but we need to work harder at it.
Regarding Goalies, Lachem was fantastic, making a brilliant double save in the 1st half, and deserved her player of the match award. You are getting better each week, and we will work on your weaknesses. Keep coming to the training, and practising at home/school wherever, as much as possible, and we will get there.
Don't forget, Laserquest, please try and bring you forms and money next Thursday. The 10's and 12's have all had the forms now, so if you want to go, be quick.
Parents - please leave a comment. Me and Amy are looking for your feedback, good, bad or indifferent.

Ouch!

Bad news for MEGAN (LOWE), she was so looking forward to playing the 1st game of the year vs. City, but she has only gone and broken a bone in her foot, and will be out for at least FOUR WEEKS. Never mind Megan, with all this bad weather, you probably won't miss that many games. Get well soon!

Denton Town U10's 4 Heyside 0

I know this site isn't really for the 10's (yet)but, I went to watch them today at Curzon Ashton, and would like to say just how fantastic they played. It was freezing, raining with a bit of a breeze, and although they had a slow start, they eventually got going, and little Hannah in nets had practically nowt to do. Goals from Gaby, Rebecca, Coral and an own goal secured the points, in this mostly one sided game.

If only they hadn't started the season late, the championship would be within their grasp, but runners' up spot is definitely a very realistic target.

Well done girls.

Nigel.
