Under 11's. Denton Town 5 Heyside Navys 1

Well done girls, from what I have been told, you played tremendous. Me and Amy are delighted, and can't wait to congratulate you next Thursday, for finally getting some points on the table.

As we have said in training, believe in yourself, and keep practising what we show you at training, and the results will come. Myself and Amy have seen a great improvement in all of you, in terms of your ability and attitude, and we are determined to make you into a decent team.

Next game is 6th Jan vs. City, so practise as much as you can over the 'xmas period, as it will be tough against them, but you have nothing to fear, as you are improving all the time.

See you Thurs.

Nigel.

Denton Town 7 Wythenshawe Town 0

The less said about the incidents before the match the better. The pitch was very heavy, but in my opinion, and that of Alan, Tim and the ref, playable. Sandra from Wythenshawe is entitled to say what she said, and I applaud her for wanting to protect her girls, but at the end of the day, I've seen junior matches played on worse pitches, without complaint.

Anyway, I thought the heavy pitch suited them more than us, as it slowed down our usual fast game, and the 25 mins each way (should be 35), certainly kept the score down. Sandra was delighted with the result, and I offered her support by saying that her team had really improved since the start of the season, and wished her well in their future games.

Our player of the match was Yolanda, and for them, we gave it to one of the identical twins, number 14, though her sister number 15 also played very well. The scorers were: -

12 mins 1-0 Yoyo
15 mins 2-0 Chloe B
24 mins 3-0 own goal
Half-time 3-0
30 mins 4-0 Sam
36 mins 5-0 Lauren
42 mins 6-0 Kayleigh (Pen)
50 mins 7-0 Yoyo

So, well done today girls, for working hard in difficult conditions. Enjoy the Derby next Saturday - well City fans anyway.

18 Nov 2006

Denton Town 10 Flixton Town 0

Really good performance on a difficult pitch, and Flixton are not a bad side, especially when you consider they have played all their matches before today, short of players. Great to see players working for each other, as some of you did today. The scorers were

3 mins 1-0 Yoyo
8 mins 2-0 Georgia
11 mins 3-0 Yoyo
13 mins 4-0 Natalie
24 mins 5-0 Yoyo
Half Time
37 mins 6-0 Natalie
50 mins 7-0 Kayleigh - Penalty
58 mins 8-0 Natalie
61 mins 9-0 Chelsea
63 mins 10-0 Chelsea

Our player of the match was Natalie and for them the big girl called Charlotte.

7 Nov 2006

4 Nov 2006

Postponed Games

Just adding this as a record.

28th October - Wythenshawe Amateurs - Home
Pitch waterlogged

4th November - Deans - Away
Burnt out car on pitch.

21 Oct 2006

Wythenshawe Amateurs 2 Denton Town 4 - CUP

Respect to Wythenshawe as you had to work hard to get this one, though must say, the small goals gave them an advantage. How many times did we hit the woodwork, 3?, and a number of shots just flying wide of the far post, all of which would have been in had the recommended goals been used. They had their chances though, with Chloe having to pull off some fine saves. Still, we can prove that point about the goals this coming weekend at our place, when we play them again, this time in the league. Here's the details from Saturday's match.

0-0 at Half time.
36 mins 1-0 Yoyo
42 mins 2-0 Nat
52 mins 2-1
54 mins 3-1 Yoyo
56 mins 3-2
70 mins 4-2 Nat.

Player of the match was Nat, and we gave ours to their goalie, and also noted both their number 11 and 18 played really well.

16 Oct 2006

November Fixtures

4th Deans Sports - Away
11th Poynton Girls - Away
18th Flixton Girls - Home
25th Sale United - Home

14 Oct 2006

Denton Town 5 Stockport county 5

Talk about leaving it late! Phew! Reminded me of Paul Dickov scoring for City v. Gillingham at Wembley, when we were 2-0 down after 89mins, only for Dickov to get the equaliser in the 94th.

Credit to both sides, as that was a fantastic game of football, and I can't wait until we meet again at their place. You all showed tremendous character because, many teams would have crumpled when Stockport's 5th goal went in. But not you lot, you're Denton Town, and made of harder stuff. But PLEASE, don't leave it so late in the future, me, Tim and Alan aren't getting any younger you know :))

Here are the scorer details;_

7 mins 0-1 Stockport score
10 mins 1-1 Natalie
13 mins 1-2 Stockport score
15 mins 2-2 Natalie
27 mins 3-2 Yolanda
28 mins 3-3 Stockport score
half time
40 mins 3-4 Stockport score
46 mins 3-5 Stockport score
70 mins 4-5 Yolanda
70 mins - injury time 5-5 Yolanda's hat-trick. Incredible.

Our player of the match was Ruby (though they always give to the keeper), and for them we gave it to no.14 although their keeper made some fine saves in the first half.

Next week, we take a break from the league, as we play Wythenshawe Amateurs away in the cup. The week after, we play them again, this time at home in the league. Not to be under estimated, as they have beaten Poynton and drawn with Deans.

On a non-footballing note, congratulations to Kayleigh Crompton for winning bronze in her judo competition last Saturday. Now we know where she gets all her strength from.

7 Oct 2006

Roach Dynamoes 0 Denton Town 8

Despite another comfortable victory, you really made life difficult for yourselves, and Alan was right to lecture you at half-time. At 2-0 Roach very nearly pulled a goal back just before the break, and as we all know, goals change games, and it could have given them the lift they needed.

Hopefully, that's your bad game out of the way, because if you play like that against Stockport next week, then they will be walking away with 3 pts., not you.

Still, let's go into our next match being positive, every team has a bad game from time to time, and we know that when you all play to your potential, you can beat anybody. You have scored 47 goals in four games, and only let one in. Stockport will be studying our results, just like we are theirs, and it should be an interesting encounter - a decent challenge at last!

Here are the scorers from today's game.

2 mins 1-0 Lauren
16 mins 2-0 Georgia
Half-time
41 mins 3-0 Natalie
50 mins 4-0 Natalie
52 mins 5-0 Yoyo
60 mins 6-0 Yoyo
62 mins 7-0 Sam
66 mins 8-0 Yoyo

Yoyo was our player of the match, and for Roach, the big number 2. Nice to see 5 different goalscorers again.

3 Oct 2006

Player of the Month - September 2006

Congratulations to CHELSEA HILL, who wins this award for her great attitude, fabulous effort, and terrific performances during September.

Many players this month really turned on the style, which makes the award that little bit more special for Chelsea.

Well Done!

30 Sept 2006

OCTOBER FIXTURES

7th Away to Roach Dynamoes - This is a league game
14th Home to Stockport County - This is a league game
21st Away to Wythenshawe Amateurs - This is a cup game
28th Home to Wythenshawe Amateurs - This is a league game

As per usual, I will get directions to the away games. With the bad weather probably not far off, now is the time to check your email or the blogger every Friday night, to check if the game is still on. If your internet is down, then phone me - don't assume the match is on or off.

Hillgate Blues 0 Denton Town 9

Nicole Worthington - Since our last match, as I'm sure all of you know by now, Nic fell off a swing and broke her arm (wanted some time off school apparently). Nic won't be playing for us again until sometime in November, and her presence is missed at training and the matches. Get well soon, Nic.

Another comfortable win, which could have been more, if it wasn't for Alan trying players in different positions - which is good, because one day we may have no choice but to put players into positions they are not familiar with.
Hillgate did play well in parts, particularly their no5 Jamie-Lee, who we nominated as their player of the match. However, I felt that Hillgate resorted to being over physical at times, as they found it difficult to compete skill wise. This sort of tactic resulted in a penalty being award in the 60th minute, when Chelsea was brought down in the box. Unfortunately, Chelsea blasted the ball wide, but dont' let that distract from her termendous performance on the wing, where she was awesome. Keep up the good work Chels. Sam also did well to score late on, after having a bad knock during a collision with Hillgate's keeper. Nat as strong as ever in midfield, scoring 4 goals, and Yoyo did some excellent work playing in defence. This is when the goals were scored:-
3 mins 1-0 Yoyo
7 mins 2-0 Yoyo
11 mins 3-0 Georgia
15 mins 4-0 Sal
17 mins 5-0 Nat
20 mins 6-0 Nat
Half Time
47 mins 7-0 Nat
57 mins 8-0 Nat
60 mins missed pen
62 mins 9-0 Sam.

Nat was our player of the match from the opposition.

16 Sept 2006

Wythenshawe Town 1 Denton Town 16

Another great result, even though you struggled to get to grips with the offside on a number of occasions. Six different scorers again, which is what we are after, because it means we are not relying on one or two players every match to score the goals. This is how the match went: -

9 mins 0-1 Yoyo
12 mins 0-2 Yoyo
16 mins 0-3 Natalie
22 mins 0-4 Yoyo
24 mins 0-4 Super save by Wythenshawe's keeper to deny Natalie's spot kick
27 mins 0-5 Yoyo
32 mins 0-6 Ruby
HALF TIME
40 mins 1-6 Fine goal by Wythenshawe
45 mins 1-7 Natalie
48 mins 1-8 Natalie
49 mins 1-9 Chloe B
51 mins 1-10 Georgia
53 mins 1-11 Georgia
56 mins 1-12 Natalie
58 mins 1-13 Natalie
59 mins 1-14 Natalie
61 mins 1-15 Natalie
67 mins 1-16 Sam

Wythenshawe nominated Natalie as our player of the match, and we in return selected their keeper, although their number six was a pretty close 2nd.

Next Saturday, you can all have a lie-in, as Benchill have folded. Our next game is away to Hillgate Blues on 30th Sept.

See you all on Tuesday.

Nigel.

Will be a fun night for all the family.

Hope to see you there.

9 Sept 2006

Sale United 0 Denton Town 14

I was looking forward to our 1st match of the season against Sale with some trepidation (nervousness), as they finished 3rd last season, as we did, and although we previously beat champions Deans and runners up Urmston Town, you never know quite what you are going to get at the start of a new season. Needn't have worried, as you were absolutely FANTASTIC - to a girl.

However, please keep your feet on the ground, it is a long season, and teams like Urmston Meds, Stockport and Deans are certainly going to be a stiffer test.

Just for interest the goals went like this: -
6 mins Georgia; 14 mins Yoyo; 15 mins Yoyo; 19 mins Georgia; 29 mins Ruby; 33 mins Sally; 35 mins Kay; 2nd half 41 mins Nat; 52 mins Lauren; 63 mins Yoyo; 66 mins Sam; 68 mins Chloe B; 69 mins Yoyo and 70 mins Sam. Nice to see so many different players scoring as well.

Player of the match from the opposition was Yoyo, and their player of the match was the number 6 - I think she was called Shannon.

Please leave your comments.

Great Victory and Manchester Reserve Derby

DENTON TOWN 4 - 2 STALYBRIGE CELTIC
I know Tim and Alan speak to you after the match, but I like to have my say, especially after such a billiant performance as that. This was your 1st 9 a-side match, playing OFFSIDE, on a BIGGER pitch, against OLDER girls who are EXPERIENCED after playing in the Tameside League last season (coming 3rd), and apart from the first 10 mins, you showed them up today - WELL DONE! Couldn't have been happier with the result and the performance. Thanks for helping get the goals out as well, it is appreciated.

Next up, Denton Town Under 12's boys on Tuesday. Please arrive just before six if you can.

MANCHESTER CITY res vs. MANCHESTER UNITED res
This match is being played at City's reserve ground (the Regional Athletics Arena) on Thursday 14th Sept, KO 7pm ish. This is an opportunity for you all to go to (and sit) together at a Manchester Derby, wearing your team colours, cheering your team, having fun and sharing some banter.

I can get a minibus, pick some of you up, meet others at Denton and give all of you a lift back to your house afterwards. The match costs £3 adults and £1 kids, and I think I can limit the cost of the minibus to £2.50 maximum.

Sounds good? If enough are interested, I will arrange everything. Can pay on the night.

Let me know by leaving a comment with your name.

Nigel.

OFFSIDE RULE!

Offside position.
It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position. A player is in an offside position (not necessary offside) if:
he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.

A player is not in an offside position if:
he is in his own half of the field of play or
he is level with the second last opponent or
he is level with the last two opponents

Offence.

A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:
interfering with play or
interfering with an opponent or
gaining an advantage by being in that position

No offence.

There is no offside situation if a player receives the ball directly from:
a goal kick or
a throw-in
or
a corner kick

Infringements/sanctions.

For any offside offence, the referee awards an indirect free-kick to the opposing team to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred.

New International FA Board Decision 1

In the definition of offside position, "nearer to his opponents’ goal line" means that any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent. The arms are not included in this definition.

New International FA Board Decision 2

The definitions of elements of involvement in active play are as follows:
Interfering with play means playing or touching the ball passed or touched by a team mate.
Interfering with an opponent means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or movements or making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an opponent.
Gaining an advantage by being in that position means playing a ball that rebounds to him off a post or the crossbar having been in an offside position or playing a ball that rebounds to him off an opponent having been in an offside position.

Bit confusing isn't it! All will become clear over the next few weeks.

Manchester City vs. Portsmouth

I'm about to receive tickets from Alex Williams MBE from Man City Football in the Community for the above game, which is being played Weds 23rd Aug 7:45 KO.

Tickets are available for a £5 donation, which will go to City's Football in the Community, who provide coaching actvities for many local schools in the area.

If you want to go, let me know how many tickets you need, and you can pay me Saturday/Tuesday at training.

You support United? - well don't let that stop you. I would watch United if the situation was reversed. Anyway chance to see a premiership game and have a laugh with your team mates - just don't wear your Utd shirt.

Got to be quick, I've opened this up to all the juniors.
